In plenums the code do a mass and energy balance of the ports considering them as open thermodynamic systems. Plenums can have the number of ports that you want, even 0. These elements do not have heat transfer model yet (we are thinking in it) and chemical reactions are not considered, then, if the number of ports is equal to 0, the properties inside will remain constant during the time.
